Federated SNS Application User Manual

1. Introduction

1.1. What is Federated SNS?

Federated Social Networking Service (Federated SNS) is a next-generation communication service infrastructure based on the Common Protocol (AT Protocol). It is characterized by the ability to cooperate with communities that operate communication services using the same protocol, and provides communication services by linking and associating servers built autonomously and distributed.

1.2. Position of this document

This document describes how to use the trial environment to test Federated SNS. The sample application described in this document is a prototype system for communicating between users registered in a trial environment. The descriptions in this document are for users who use communication services, and for information on using the API, see the Federated SNS Trial Environment Developer's Manual.

1.3. Structure of this document

This document has the following structure.

2. How to use the Federated SNS app

This chapter describes how to use a GUI-based Federated SNS app that you can access using a browser.

2.1. Login

Log in to the Federated SNS app using your Fujitsu Research Portal account. Follow the steps below to log in.

2.1.1. Access the following URL.

2.1.2. Sign in

The Sign in screen appears. Enter the email address and password for the account you created in the Fujitsu Research Portal and click “Sign in.”

2.1.3. (First time only) Two-factor authentication by the Authenticator app

Use the Authenticator app to set up two-factor authentication. (If you do not have the Authenticator app installed, please use the link to install the app.) Select "Add account" → "Work or school account" → "Scan QR code" from the settings menu in the upper right corner of the screen to start the camera, so load the QR code displayed on the screen. Once the account is registered, click Continue.

2.1.4. Type in the digits in the Authenticator app

Type in the six digits that will appear in the Authenticator app and click "Verify" Entering Validation Codes.

2.1.5. (First time only) Persona configuration

Persona configuration page will be shown. A persona is an identity used in the SNS. Pick a server to use, enter handle and password. Click agree button after you read the user policy.

  • Note: here, you set a new password for Federated SNS API. Please note that it is different from the password registered on Fujitsu Research Portal and cannot be changed.

  • Note: you can register one persona at most for now. Multi-persona support is under development.

  • Note: there are no difference between the servers.

If these steps are successful, you will be taken to the Home screen and Federated SNS will be available.

2.2. Change Profile

The first account logged in only has a profile with handle information. To facilitate communication with other users, please edit your profile as follows:

2.2.1. Click “Profile ” in the left menu.

Set the icon, header, Display Name, and Description and click "Save Changes".

2.3. Channel Operations

Federated SNS provides a channel function as a service for posting messages. The current service allows you to join pre-created channels, create your own channels, and post on those channels.

2.3.1. Join Channel

To join a pre-created channel and view posts:

1. Click “Channels” in the left menu.

2. Choose the channel to join

In the Channel List, click the channel you want to join.

3. Channel join setting

For channels that are not already joined, an error message is displayed as shown in the figure below. Click the “Setting” button to configure the channel join settings.

4. Enter the passcode

On the Channel Settings screen, enter the passcode and click the “Add member” button. Go back to the channel page and make sure the error disappears and the post is viewable. If the error persists, you can update the status by clicking the refresh button next to the error text.

  • Note: Passcodes are distributed to participants in contests. Not all users of the Fujitsu Research Portal will receive it.

2.3.2. Creating Channel

You can create channels that only your account can post to. In the Create Channel menu, enter the channel handle name and click the “Submit” button. After a period of time, the Channel List displays the channels you created.

  • Note: It may take time to apply the information. Please wait for a while and refresh the screen.

2.3.3. Posting to Channel (only channels you create)

Only channels created in 1.3. 2 can be posted to a channel. Select the channel you created from the channel list, enter a message in the post form, and click the “Post” button. Posted messages are added to the same screen for viewing.

  • Note1: Channels joined with a passcode are view-only and cannot be posted.

  • Note2: It may take time to apply the information. Please wait for a while and refresh the screen.

2.4. Enabling and disabling Generative AI chatbot

Your account has a Generative AI chatbot, which supports your communication with others. To enable or disable the chatbot, click “Settings” icon in the left,

then click slide button in the chatbot section in the Settings page.

2.5. How to request or ask questions

3. FAQ/Tips

This chapter describes frequently asked questions and useful features for using Federated SNS.

3.1. How do I change my password?

For the password set in Fujitsu Research Portal (https://en-portal.research.global.fujitsu.com/), please change the password according to the "Editing an account" document at the following URL.

You cannot change the password set for the Federated SNS persona. If you have any problems with your Federated SNS password, please contact us by email at contact-federated-sns@cs.jp.fujitsu.com.

3.2. I forgot my password. Reset password

Please reissue the password using the same procedure as in 2.1.

3.3. About Federated SNS Servers

With Federated SNS, multiple servers coalesce to enable distributed communication. The Fujitsu Research Portal Federated SNS environment provides the servers in Table 1 List of Federated SNS Servers
